Despite the commission's approval of the concerns raised, Trump took to social media to thank them, misrepresenting the vote's outcome. The commission received an overwhelming 1,696 public comments, predominantly negative, with many labeling the project as a “glorified vanity project.” Public sentiment was echoed by veterans who voiced their worries about the arch obstructing views of Arlington National Cemetery, stressing the need for a design that unifies rather than divides.
