AUKUS Alliance Unveils Underwater Drone Initiative
The US, UK, and Australia are set to develop advanced underwater drone technology to enhance defense and protect undersea cables. This initiative marks a significant step in the AUKUS alliance, aiming to counter growing maritime threats.
AUKUS Alliance's New Defense Strategy
In a bold move to bolster maritime security, the US, UK, and Australia have announced plans to develop cutting-edge underwater drone technology. This initiative, revealed at the Shangri-la Dialogue in Singapore, aims to protect vital undersea cables and enhance defense capabilities against rising threats, particularly from China and Russia.
The UK will contribute £150 million ($201 million) to this project, which is expected to yield results by next year. The uncrewed undersea vehicles (UUVs) will be equipped with advanced payloads and systems designed for various operations, including:
- Protecting seabed infrastructure
- Conducting surveillance and reconnaissance
- Engaging in logistics operations
