In a groundbreaking move, the UK government has announced a £1.3 billion investment to support the construction of Universal Studios' first theme park in Europe, located in Bedfordshire. This initiative is expected to create approximately 20,000 jobs during the construction phase and an additional 8,000 once the park opens in 2031.

The funding package includes:

  • £400 million from the regional growth fund
  • £438 million grant from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport
  • £474 million for strategic road and rail projects in the region
Chancellor Rachel Reeves emphasized that this investment will unlock nearly £50 billion in economic growth, significantly benefiting the local community and various sectors, including construction, hospitality, and technology. With an anticipated 8.5 million visitors in its first year, the Universal United Kingdom Resort is poised to become a major attraction in the region.
